Edible mushrooms?

I've been in Arizona helping with my brothers elk hunt for the last week and these mushrooms are all over the mountains under many pine trees.
The immature one look just like the button mushrooms you buy in the store and this is what they look like when the mature.
Any of you guys know if they are edible?

I've heard the ones growing under the pine needles are are delicious. I never brought myself to eat one. My hunting partner said his grandmother told him to bring her a bunch back. I meant to google them. I think your good though. Just some advice. Start with a small bite. Wait 30 minutes.

I still remember reading about the Oregon family of 4, quite a few years back, ate the wrong ones. Ended up all 4 needed liver transplants to survive as I recall. So wild mushrooms scare me as much or more than rattlesnakes... Some of them are very toxic, an ounce or less can be a real problem. I know nothing about which are good, bad, or deadly. I get mine in the store.

I don't know the pictured one, but morels are awesome, especially with elk steak. slice them, little bit or breading and fry in butter with salt, pepper and garlic. very good.

in college a buddy went home to seattle and picked a bunch of shrooms that where growing in peoples yards. Very interesting, weird and fun night after eating those things.

I stopped a suicide attempt due to mushrooms once. She was convinced she was the ugliest person in the world, And that sawing her neck with a plastic comb would solve her problems. That was an interesting evening..

Yep, bet you are referring to those "Magic Shrooms". Seen folks have some real bad trips on those in the 70's/early 80's. There used to be a cattle pasture between Sublimity and Silverton that grew them in bunches, and attracted users as well. Never made any sense to me.

There are a number of good mushroom identification books on the market. I remember an old fella telling me once "Those with Gills Kills" Do yours have gills under the cap?

the last time for me was in 94. the aurora borealis was awesome on them, feeling I could take out the" sum of all evil" when bullshitting with my bud, was enough for me to never again.

some of us had way to much energy in our late teens and early 20's and we had to figure out how to use it. I eventually found the mtn bike, but there was a period where I was in the experimenting stage. Glad it didn't last long though.
that was also over 20 years ago too.

Morels are ok-many folks here in IA go nuts over them this time of year. Not much else in the way of other mushrooms that are posionous look like morels-there is a 'false morel'-but I dont think they will kill you. To my taste, they are like comparing a grocery store tomato to a home grown one-but instead with mushrooms. If you really like tomatoes that can be a big deal, using that analogy. Its fun to forage for them. The AZ ones in the picture look nothing like morels-unless I got expert advice, I'd steer clear.
