I'm new to elk hunting and as I start purchasing gear for an upcoming trip I'm wondering what ways or lanyards I should be looking at to carry some of the bigger calls like my bugle which I hopefully don't need to use, and then the primos squeeze call, can't remember the name of it, anyways...just curious if any one brand lanyard or style of rope is best for guys that have done this over and over.

ELR,

This will vary depending on what your preferences are and exactly what calls you have. I personally keep my bugle tube on a longer string that sits on my back and under my right arm. It can be easily slid around to the front for use and then slid back out of the way. The cow calls will all come down to what is comfortable to you. I don't like anything dangling to get the way of a shot so I keep mine tucked away using various methods depending on the clothing I am wearing.

I sometimes carry my bugle just like Hilltop explained, or I just put it in my pack and get it out as needed. Diaphragms go on the inside of my sweat band of my hat, or in my mouth. Open reed calls are tied to my bino harness on the left side so they are out of the way of my bow when I shoot, also I tuck them under the flap of my harness to keep them from flopping around.

My bugle tube the lanyard I have tied just right to fit snug under the side pouch of my backpack when slung around my neck. I always have a diaphragm call in mouth at all times. And my open reed call goes in the pouch on my bino harness.

I keep my bugle tube on a long string and slide it out of the way when I don't need it. The smaller reeds go in my pocket inside a plastic case.

I carry all my Mouth calls on lanyards around my neck. My Sitka jacket has two pockets that were designed to put the calls on lanyards in. it is a great feature built into the jacket. I made my bugle a extra long lanyard and it is attached to my backpack and the bugle goes in a side compartment in the pack.
