The cow hunt here in the Grand teton/Elk Refuge is hard to watch at times...There are unfortunately too many hunters who give us a terrible name in front of the biggest group of enviros who live in this area. I have multiple times witnessed what i would consider illegal pushing of elk and "herd" shooting. I had this tag years ago just to put meat in the freezer...after doing it once, i felt terrible for the elk and even more so felt like i had a better chance of being shot by someone, than the damn elk. There is a reason the environmentalists get so riled up and take pictures every year that shows bad hunting behavior. Every morning if you drive north, there is a line of orange sitting along the road pullouts hoping for a push of elk...then it just turns into a royal Sh** show at times. The biologists want this hunt because of the need to knock down the grand teton herd that never leaves the park, but it is definitely easy for these photographers to paint hunters in a terrible picture with some of the stuff that goes on. . There are definitely plenty of hunters who actually go out and get their cow safely and effectively, but there are to many instances of negligence that continue to paint hunters in a very bad light.
