Early Season Elk

Buddy drew a 61-71 Muzzle loader elk tag. Any body have any early season tricks they could share?

Don't know the area. But I know they are pulling some big bulls from there.

We deer hunted 61 last year, so already have a little familiarity with the land, just looking for some info on early season since it starts Sept. 1. Will calls work that early? Spend time looking for bachelor herds.
