Anybody have any tips on deer patterns in early October? I have been scouting my area for the past couple of months, and the deer seem to be holding tight in the trees and thick cover. I have some good info on Elk in Nevada if anyone wants to share some tips! Thanks

Ive been researching the same for my hunt. Oct 17-30 in nv. Best I can find is the bucks will be holding tight in the thick stuff waiting for the rut to kick in. Im not a fan of thick tree hunting I like open country early season. But each has its perks.

Be set up and ready to glass before daylight and make sure you are also glassing until legal shooting hour is over. Those will be your best bets of catching a buck before he beds for the day and maybe when he comes out to feed in the evening. There is no harder time to hunt mule deer than early October in my opinion.

Pretty obvious but weather is also a big factor in the deers habits. You never know what you are going to get in Nevada in Oct, could be hot and dry or there could be a foot of snow.

Weather will determine the deer movement. Usually the bucks seem to kinda be alone but I have seen them all rutted up, chasing does in October. That's usually in the middle to end of October though. Usually they will be in thick stuff. But the weather will determine alot of their behaviors.

Its interesting learning about how geographical locations can change these animals. I make sure to take a week off early oct or late sep for my muley hunting as the deer around here seem to go on a feeding frenzy for a week or two. I will see more bucks in these two weeks than any other period of our 4 month bow season.

I have hunted the independence mountains in 064 in late october and they are already starting to rut. I shot a real nice one not to far fromthe road on the way back to camp. The bucks willbe everywhere from the mountain tops to the bottoms. Ive seen a big non typical in the bottoms and a big old typical up top. Dont know if that helps.
