Starting to dial in on my research and planning out my early archery hunt in 6a this fall. Google earth scouting is a little tricky, the terrain all kind of looks the same!! I've identified several areas that I like, and will begin my focus on. The hunt starts September 11th, I'll arrive the day of the hunt and hunt until the season is over.

Has anyone ever hunted the unit? I'd love to chat with anyone that has. I'm a bit concerned about the total number of tags and overall pressure. If this will impact the bugling, if they'll bugle at all during the day, etc.

I'll be prepared for all tactics, including chasing bugles, sitting water, etc. will take a few treestands and trail cameras, etc..

Hunt some of the quiet zones throughout the unit.....foot or horse access only. Reduces a lot of traffic and the elk are in them. Also, don’t be afraid to look in the lower cedar country (south of Stoneman Lake RD, east side of unit). Find water sources and you’ll find elk in the lower stuff

Thanks Bohntr, the quite areas are definitely on my list of places to check out. I'd heard that there were elk in the cedars, will also look into it. Finding a little bit of solitude will be more important than total inches.

***SHOOT! I totally forgot to mention that I'm not looking for honey holes! :D:D:D
