What is everyone using for an outside dog house? Been looking at insulated ones and not sure what to get. Thought about building, but it looks like it would be cheaper to buy one.

Thanks

I built one. It was insulated and dry. Used it for all of my previous dogs.
But my current Lab is totally house broken, sleeps on her pad in our mud room. I also have an outside kennel that is 20' x30' that I keep her in during the summer.

My dog is not spoiled but she does have a two story doghouse.

Abby sleeps in the house at night. The kennel/run is only for when we leave her home. normally she has the run of the yard. Seven acres and no fence.

I keep my Yellow Lab and Golden inside, they sleep at the foot of my bed.
I built a dog run next to the house and installed a dog door so they can let themselves in and out.
Works very well.

As for outside dog homes there are some very good ones that you can buy out there.

If you are handy with a hammer and can drive a nail into some wood without bending it you can also build a good one with scrap lumber and siding that will keep your pooch nice and comfy.

Years ago when I was doing electrical work we had a client that had us wire in a light socket into the dog home. All the wires were buried and the light was enclosed in a housing where the dog couldn't get to it. We also place a thermostat on the line where it wouldn't just be on all the time. It is surprising at how warm a 50 watt light bulb can keep a small enclosure like a outside dog home.

Thanks for the replies. He stays inside most of the time, that’s why I’m looking for an insulated one so when he has to be outside. Penciling it out it’ll cost around $200 to build one unless I can find some scrap wood.
The igloo style is one I’ve thought about getting, just not sure how warm it would be.

Thanks
