Do whitetail rut tools work on mule deer?

I am doing a remote mule deer hunt in mid November. I was wondering if whitetail grunt tubes, rattling and can calls work on mulie's during the rut?

Saw a tv show once where they rattled and a nice buck came in but it was also on privatle land. Although I once heard a mule deer buck
grunt and it sounded like somebody burping. at the time I didn't know that mule deer vocalized like that.

You may have some limited reaction but in general they act very differently during the rut. Mule deer bucks gather harems instead of "chasing" individual females. If you find a lone buck wandering it may be possible to call him in or at least stop him with a grunt? I honestly haven't tried because just about every mature buck I see in November is with a herd of does. Spot and stalk is the rule in November for me.

You bet it works! If you can find a buck with his nose to the ground searching hit him with a can call a few times and they will come in on a string. I have not had much luck with grunting or rattling but a can call will work wonders. If they are with does they won't respond to a doe call, but if you use a fawn in distress call sometimes the does will come running and guess who will be following right behind. I have had scent drags work before too, Bucks cross your path smell the drag line and follow it right to you. I say try whatever you can to increase your odds. Good luck on your hunt!

I am interested in the answers to this also. Good topic. I have stopped them with a grunt, and I have had them snort at me. Ruttin had some good ideas it sounded like. I like to try and jump them out of their beds which may not be the best strategy, but unlike whitetails which seem to jump and try and get away as fast as possible, they seem to like to hide until the last minute and sometimes will snort at you if you get to close before they get up. I don't think the snort will bring any in, so I am not really helping, lol. I might try it at Walmart tonight and see if snorting brings anything in. That is my favorite place to try out new calls.
