diy mule deer hunt region H,Wyoming

I have drawn a region H mule deer tag for Wyoming. My first trip there and am doing a diy hunt as a nonresident of Wyoming.Just want to shoot a buck mule deer.Don't have to be a trophy.Any ideas on areas to look at?I know I'm not allowed to hunt wilderness areas without a guide. Thanks,Bruce

Sorry I can't help you on that I'm in the same boat. Gonna try for region g or h next year not sure which one yet. I would assume less people in h do to wilderness area. All I've heard is go deep.

Thanks.I'm hearing alot of huging the wilderness line.Been checking alot of maps and will be doing some scouting on some mountains and burnt lands there, a week before the season. As of now going to do alot of hiking and camping out coyote style.Who knows.I'll have 6 total weeks of fun between mule deer and elk to find out.I'll get to see some great scenery if anything.Always hunted whitetails here in the East and have shot a pile of them, both with gun and bow.Always wanted to hunt out west so I'm taking the guiding season off here in Maine this year and giving the west a try. Will be interesting for sure.

I've heard the national Forest is good. Or is that the same as wilderness? Do non resident need a guide in national forest?

Wilderness boundaries are usually marked on main trails or trail heads entering a wilderness. A gps with a hunting gps map chip will show the boundaries and is your best bet for knowing exact land owership boundaries. www.huntinggpsmaps.com. Not all gps's will take a chip. I use a garmin oregon 450t gps.

I have the oregon 450 with a chip for Co & Wy. Whats really nice is it will show where you are in relation to these boundries...real time. You can see on the screen your location in relation to NF, Wliderness & PP boundries. If you are in a wilderness area you will see it.

Ya the hunting gps maps are amazing, has allowed me to go places where most folks turn around since the fence is posted PP even though the fence line is public. I have found many places where whoever has the grazing rights try and post private. They may have some acres, or a sections within this area, but I have found in many cases over 80% of the posted area is BLM. I just use a cheap Garmin Venture HC and it is super simple and easy to operate.

Thanks everyone.I can see a stop at Cabelas on the way over to Wyoming.
Thats where I bought mine, good thing is you can compare all the models together. I was wanting the 800/850 and when I actually had one in my hand, felt it was to big and heavy to be carrying around all day hunting. They have the hunting chips too.

I shot a 31" 7X6 not too far over Togwotee pass a few years ago. North of Dubois after you go over the pass you will see some high rock cliffs. The tallest one is called Breccia (sp?) Peak. We camped at a little lake and I found him right at the base of the cliffs there. The top of the cliffs and north is the wilderness.

You may want to get it ahead of time. Cabelas is showing the WY chip on backorder online. Sportsmans warehouse shows its available online. You can order it direct too. Im going to see if cabelas has it in store tomorrow since I will be in the area. If they dont Im going to order it so I have it before I head off to WY. This will be my first year using my oregon 450t and the chip.
