Trying to find a place to buy the peroxide. The places around me want a arm and leg for 16 ounces and one said I had to have a license to purchase a gallon.

Any online places for 9 bucks a gallon like the video?

I just went around to the small salon shops until I found it. I haven't seen it online.

Same here went into a beauty school and they looked at me like I had two heads.
Went to a beauty supply store and the owner said he is selling more 40% strength peroxide gel for elk & deer skulls than he is for making bleach blondes!!!!
Got to be something on line.

OK picked up a gallon at Sally's. You can buy 1/2 gallons online from them but there becomes a shipping issue with gallon jugs of this so they don't offer it except in the store.

Funny thing is I walk in with my wife and she asks the lady behind the counter where its located. The lady looks at me and sees my camo hat and says "this must be for you" I laugh and she says "you would be amazed on how much of this we sell to you hunters"

Got my mule deer done from this year, turned out pretty good. Thought I would also post a pic of a whitetail I found that had died of blue tongue a couple years ago.

Your skulls came out very nice. I have an antelope in the freezer from 2013 I'm going to try this on. I hope it comes out as good as yours.

I do a lot of euro mounts every year. The most common question is “how do you recommend I hand my skull?” I stumbled upon a low cost means while visiting home depot.

If you are looking for a low cost and effortless way to hang your skull, this may be an option.

I ran into an issue when I did my first mule deer skull myself. I used the oxiclean and powdered dish detergent as well, and everywhere the water touched the antlers it whitened them up a bit as well. Not bleach white but noticeable. Next time I will be trying to find a way to cover the skull but not have the antlers in the water at all.

Anyone else have this problem, or know a way to stop it?

Im glad you asked. I do a lot of euro mounts. This is ho I deal with it.

So your cleaning that deer skull for a Euro mount and you get sloppy and get the oxi clean or bleach or peroxide or whatever you use on the antlers by mistake and bleach the antler as well. Now what? I have found that stains and dyes just don't cut it with antlers and the color match is never quite right. A long time ago I had heard about a common hardware store item working well to re-color antlers. I had some of this on hand for Boy Scout uses as an antiseptic, water purifier and fire starter (when mixed with anti-freeze or soap or sugar water, etc). Way back in the day it was part of a boy scout first aid kit until it was discovered that if accidentally mixed with the glycerin soap in the first aid kit that it would start on fire (just like mixing it with anti freeze) The product is called Potassium Permanganate. Its used today by those with a green sand water filters as an oxidizer.

To show how its applied, I took a section of antler left over from a project and boiled it in a mixture of water, oxi clean and bleach.

** Important safety note****

Don't boil water and oxi clean and add bleach unless you want a huge mess with lots of foaming. After cleaning that up, I mixed a smaller batch. Anyway. Here is the antler section.

Then I left it in the cleaner for a few hours to bleach it.

The bleached antler.

Potassium Permanganate looks like gun powder. It looks like a fine black powder but its actually a fine purple powder.

***Warning***

This is a strong oxidizer. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves and cover your work space.

When mixed with water, you will see the true color revealed.

I used a Q-tip to apply.
