Ive been experimenting with homemade ballistic gel for an upcoming bowhunting product project Ive been contracted to carry out. I made these two samples of gel before my California trip and let it sit in the fridge for a week to observe a few things.

The batch on the left was made following the Knox gelatin recipe with water. The batch on the right I replaced the water with regular old brown bottle, hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) from the pharmacy.

Right away the water batch was more amber in color and the batch with H.P. was more clear. After a week, the batch made with water had a lot of mold on it but the batch made with 3% H.P. had no mold and was still far more clear than the water batch. Both have the same firmness and consistency.

Now, Its been 38 days and Im starting to see the formation of mold on the Ballistic gel I made with Hydrogen Peroxide proving the usability can be greatly extended by just replacing the water with hydrogen peroxide.

This Ballistic gel can be melted (using a boiling water bath) and recast and reused and the mold can be cut away before melting but its good to know that there is a better option than water when making your gel. (should you have a need for ballistic gel)
