I have been to the WY Game and Fish website to check draw odds. I can't seem to figure out how to find draw odds for a unit as a 2nd choice. I can find the draw odds on all units for first choice with various pp values, but can't find anything for 2nd choice draw odds. I don't even see any data on 2nd choice applicants. Any ideas on how to figure this?

Thanks

LaHunter- The 2nd choice information is under the "random draw" link on the same page- it shows how many first, second, and 3rd choice applicants there were along with how many tags were allocated. They give the random draw tags to all first choice applicants first- then if there are any left- the second choice people have a chance to draw, then 3rd.....

Look at the NR random draw. Subtract first choice apps from the total quota and that number vs the 2nd choice apps is the 2nd choice draw odds.

Thanks for the replies. I thought I had the WY deer drawing process for non residents sort of figured out, but now it seems maybe not.
Looking at the Demand Index Drawing Odds page on the web site, it lists the different draws as:

Random Draw
- Regular Draw
- Special Draw

PP Draw
- Regular Draw
- Special Draw

Each has its own different quotas. I see in the Random Draw that they do list 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice applicants for the Regular and the Special Draw.

I guess I thought all non resident tags were PP draw, whether it was in the Regular or the Special draws.
I am wanting to see if I can enter the Special Draw and draw my unit as a second choice with no points, but I don't want to outsmart myself and not draw my unit.

Thanks for your patience and your replies

As long as there are leftover tags in the area you are choosing as a second choice you will have a chance. Points are only used for the pp draw, all 2nd and 3rd choice tags are drawn at random.

I believe that something like 25% of the allocated tags for a certain area are set aside for the random draw only for non-residents. Doing a little research into an area that issues all the tags in their respective drawing (so that there's no roll-down tags) shows the breakdown like this:

NR Random Draw - 15% allocation
NR Random Special Draw - 10% allocation
NR PP Draw - 45% allocation
NR PP Special Draw - 30% allocation

So, even if you are unable to draw in the PP drawing, there's a chance you can draw in the random drawing.

The tags for the PP draw and random draw are both from the same quota. X% of tags go into the PP draw and are drawn starting with the highest point holders and X% go into the random draw for all 1st choice applicants that did not draw in the PP draw to give all 1st choice applicants some chance to draw. Any tags left over after the 1st choice applicants are all drawn can be drawn 2nd choice. The advantage to drawing on your 2nd choice is you can still gain a point and get a tag.
