I drew a special turkey tag for a state park here in South Dakota. It takes about 5 years preference to draw. I had been in the park once so far this year, the day had snow, rain and sleet with no results. Yesterday the weather started to warm up and we noticed the birds were out strutting in the afternoon. I took my 7 year old out of school after lunch and we made the trip down to the park. After a couple hours covering some land we found some strutters in a meadow. We had to hike up above them in order to get in position. I crawled out to put the decoy at the tree edge, then crawled back about 5 steps we counted. I used a glass slate to get their attention and the avian x decoy did the rest. They had to come uphill about 130 yards to us. My son was above me hiding behind a tree. I use a black powder shotgun so needed to make sure there was enough room between the two. Then of course after the shot thinking about the video goes out the window. This is the third turkey my son has been with me to take so far. He is very excited to get his chance in a couple years. I still have my oldest sons mentor tag along with a couple county tags to fill myself.

Congrats! I use to go through the park on my way to Newcastle, WY. That is a really neat area, I'm going to hunt turkeys in the black hills one day. Awesome to see you taking your son out. Best Father/Son time spent is in the outdoors.

Congrats! You and your buds are just crushing the Turk population up there this year! Just like previous comment love to get up there and hunt on the forest some year, thought it was going to happen last year, but no.
