These incidents seem to occur near urban areas with habituated cats. People on mtn bikes or runners solo seem to produce the predator response in mountain lions.

Man the first guy just ran away and left his buddy to die..?

Or maybe the 2nd guy was already dead. Either way, crazy what adrenaline can do.

Sounds like according to the articles that I have read that they did everything right when they first saw the cat but then did everything wrong the second time.

You also have to figure that perhaps these two were not familiar with what to do when you see a predator like a cat out in the wilds.

Yep,riding away from a Mountain Lion is like dangling a piece of yarn in front of a kitten.Instant attack response.

Sad that this happened. In California I would be saying “not surprised” in Washington I’m a little surprised that it happened. Seems the population of lions is about normal and would think they would be more afraid of people. Even riding bikes seems odd a lion would attach. They must have been stopped talking when the lion attacked not actually riding.

Unfortunately for those guys it was just another day at the office for the cat. Humans are weak compared to an apex animal.

didn't Oregon or Washington ban hunting cougars with dogs?

I remember an attack, maybe in cali years ago, I believe the biker used his bike to defend himself... which I would much prefer to have between us rather than nothing, of course I think I'd prefer a sidearm.

And here I thought we were going to talk about some older ladies down at the bars.

Come to think of it we could still be.
