Contact lenses in the backcountry

I'm starting to plan my first backcountry hunt and was wondering how guys that wear contact lenses handle this type of hunt. I feel like I would need contacts, backup contacts, solution, a contact case and even a mirror to put them on. What do other guys do.

While we're on topic, do most people bring a toothbrush and toothpaste?

Interested to hear what most people do about toiletries.

I never go hunting for a few days without tooth brush and tooth paste. Twice a day every day!

Get the 30 days lenses. Then just take a spare set in the cases they come in. No solution or anything else needed. I bring Visine for contacts in the small bottle it comes in for emergency if needed.
The real issue is getting your hands clean enough to put em in.

I too wear the extended wear contacts. I do bring a spare set and some solution (don't need a mirror), but I also bring my glasses as backup. Once I got something in one of my eyes and it got so irritated, I had to take my contacts out for a day or so and needed my rx glasses.

Toothbrush/paste ....goes without saying!!

I can't wear contacts, but do bring a spare pair of glasses. I always bring a toothbrush, just take one of those small tubes of paste, and it will last you a couple weeks. If you are anally weight conscious, then cut off half the handle, and squeeze out half of the tube.

Right now I wear daily contacts so I guess I will look into getting some extended wear ones. Eventually I hope to get the Lasik surgery. Thanks for the insight.

I always take way more contacts than I need. my first trip out west I went through 3 lenses.......on the drive there. it was series of unfortunate events. thankfully, I had 1 extra left. the wind will blow a contact lens off your finger when putting them in. it will blow sand in your eyes too. I have somewhat sensitive eyes, so now when I go west, I buy a case of lenses and put them in my glove box. since I've been doing that (5 trips west now) I have yet to lose a lense!

Toothbrush
toothpaste
mini bottle of hand sanitizer
soft cloth
extra pair lenses
oversized glasses case (Walmart by the old lady reading glasses)
everything fits in the big case, including my glasses
I use my phone camera as a mirror

I bring everything you mentioned above, minus the mirror. Start practicing without a mirror and it becomes easy before long.

I've never tried the 30 days lenses.

I always take a toothbrush and paste.

I would probably have a backup pair in the truck.

in the field, just 1 case, 1 set of contacts, and a little bit more than enough solution.

personally I don't need a mirror, I use a mirror in my day to day life but it's surprisingly easier to do without a mirror than you might think.

1 thing I learned on a cold tent hunt was to store them in something warm...or near the stove, or perhaps under your sleeping bag etc... they froze up 1 night on me...

I wear daily use contacts only...I dont take a mirror but do take an extra pair of glasses. I always end up getting grit in an eye at least once every trip but wash it out and move on...I have been trying to find the right pair of glasses or goggle hybrid to wear to cut down on the dust. I have started to sleep with my contact case in my sleeping bag to keep them warm...the ice to the eyeball first thing in the morning is over rated.

I had an issue quite a few years ago with one freezing? That?s he only thing I could think happened. Coming off the mountain and it was just below 0 with a pretty stiff breeze in my face. Blinked, and one popped right out, that was a neat trick to get back in. Bring glasses as a backup, oh and toothbrush and paste. Definitely that too.

I always wear wraparound shooting glasses when I am in the field. Really helps to keep my contacts comfortable and the wind out. I wear my extended wear contacts 24/7 for around a month, never taking them out.

I had lasik 8 years ago. Probably the best 3k I ever spent.

Before that I wore daily disposables. Toss them each night, and throw in a fresh pair in the morning.

I wore contacts for over 25 years. I could put mine in in nearly any conditions. Practice putting them in without a mirror.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you have seriously looked at Lasik(sp) to help deal with this?

I have thought about it, but haven't been in the position to do it yet.
