I've had a CC permit here in Colorado for the last 15 years. Every state is different in their requirements and rules. Here in Colorado, each county used to set their own rules. About 10 years ago the state legislature stepped in and passed uniform rules throughout the state. Each county issues the permit, but the state mandates the requirements.
Our rules have requirements for training. One of them is if you participate in competitive shooting, you don't have to attend class. I run a Bulls Eye pistol league and I am also an NRA certified Rifle & Pistol Instructor along with certified Range Safety Instructor. All I do is write a letter to our County Sheriff on our club letterhead for the applicant/league shooter and that satisfies the training requirement.
Some states don't require actual shooting as part of the program. If that is the case, I would do it anyway. The more the better.
