What level of comfort do you give yourself in the back country?

Are you a hard core minimalist and there is no room for comfort? Or you will pack some extra weight for a few comforts and what are they?

A little bit of both for me. I always pack more food than needed and a hard back book. I cant read books on my phone, doesn't have the right feel! I throw in at least one pair of extra pants and my bivy sack along with the one man tent, adds a little more warmth when temp decides to drop and sometimes I want the stars above me. Oh, and a come along, yes they are extra weight but when an elk decides to die in a nasty hole it is a life saver.

I like to keep my camp pretty simple. Base camp luxuries include a cot, perculator, gas stove, gas lantern, radio and coolers. Spike camp is a cimarron, sleep pad, bag, army issue woobie, little cookstove, spork.. this year im packing a vacuum sealed meal like newberg does! Im thinking antelope stroganoff! Might get a light french press too after i win the dark timber coffee giveaway

I back pack so I keep things pretty simple. I always use a tent(a two man so my gear can be inside not just in the vestibule)because where I hunt the weather changes fast, I bring along a 1/2 liter of single malt scotch, a small axe for firewood, the first night I always bring along marinaded game meat and wraps for shish kebab over the fire, and a couple of beers in cans. So not minimalist at all but most of those things don't come back down the mountain with me. Oh yeah I always carry a paperback along, I like to read before bed and if the weather is absolute crap,

I've never been hardcore because I feel hunting should be fun and enjoyable.
That means no backpacking. Being comfortable makes that possible.
So we bring all the comforts of home.

The only luxury item that I am adding this year for my backpack hunt is a lightweight Helinox chair (2#) My bones don't like sitting on rocks and logs anymore, and I've found that the little extra effort to pack it in is worth the trouble. I've been a minimalist most of my life, but have had to modify that for various hunting partners.

I bring a Big Agnus UL3 for just myself. Nothing freaks me out more than having a tiny tent to stay in. It weights a pound or 2 more but I can keep all of my gear in there.

I also have a helinox cot. I dont like sleeping directly on the ground.

I splurge and bring my crocs for when I am around my camp as well. Dont like putting on boots to pee at 2:00AM.

I bring a small pillow as well. It makes a big difference.

In total I probably add 3-4 pounds to my pack by bringing these luxuries. But I can stay longer and sleep better than the guy who is sleeping in a 1 man tent on a pad.

Other than taking more food than i'll actually eat, i keep my pack as light as i possibly can. I like the saying pack in light and pack out heavy. Though Packing out just as light tends to happen for me ha.

It’s rare I backpack in for hunts here in Oregon. Most places have enough roads that it’s really unnecessary. When I do I like to be as comfortable as possible, sleep pad, small blow up pillow, coffee is a must as is a small dose of liquor for a nightcap. If I can hike to where I want to hunt within and hour I will not backpack camp, I will do the hour in the dark hike and stay in a comfortable camp. My favorite camp is my RV trailer. Hot showers are hard to beat.

I have opted to try a helinox ground chair and a larger floorless shelter. the only real comfort item I enjoy is the music on my phone.

I bought a terralite chair. Just over 2 pounds with dirt feet so it don't sink.

Don't plan to pack it but hoping to take it with to Alaska if I can stay under my 50 pounds weight limit. That does not include rifle and anything I can wear including optics.

Never considered a chair to pack. Sounds comfortable
I can barely justify because it also serves as a nice rack to hang clothes on to dry. I will try it for awhile. If nothing else, it could be nice to be able to take along for long sitting over a water hole or a chute. The helinox ground chair is short with the good non-sink feet, but I can sit up straight in it especially if I put my inflatable butt pad in the seat also.

I have to have a good sleeping pad and a two man tent!! When I was younger it didn't matter and I could sleep on rocks!! Not anymore.

one luxury item I have yet to find is a sleeping pad that doesn't leave my back sore in the AM, ibuprofen helps with it, but I toss and turn a lot at night. Outside that, I always bring extra food. Nice for just in case or to gorge my self for the last or a big pack out.
