Colorado Units 75/751 Archery Mule Deer

I drew an early archery tag for unit 75/751 this year and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or was willing to shed some light on the topic. From the research I've gathered from forums so far is to focus on willow basins above 12000 feet. From initial research I was planning on coming in hunchback pass and focusing on the drainages in the upper vallecito creek drainage and or/ the basins in the upper flint creek drainage. Ive never been to this unit before so I'm not entirely sure what areas receive the most traffic from hikers and climbers. If anybody has some advice it would be very much appreciated. Obviously I'm not expecting anyone to give away their secrets! But, any advice and info on what to expect and where the heavy traffic is helps!

The roads are mainly at the far northern end and the southern end. There are a couple RR stops between Silverton and Durango and those are likely jumping off points for hikers. As always, the farther you get from transportation, road or RR, the fewer humans you will find except for those who ride in on horseback, especially with outfitters.

The local CPW biologist can probably shed some light on where the outfitters go.

Good luck. I've looked at those units several times the last few years and would like to hear any feedback from you after you hunt it.

I wouldn't stay away from an area just because there are hikers/climbers. Some of the biggest bucks I've seen could have been shot from a busy trail in the high country. I shot a nice buck in the high country last year. I saw another hunter bypass the area the buck was in because he was so close to lots of hikers.

Find a couple good glassing points where you can glass multiple basins. You should be able to find deer if you spend time behind your binos.
