Colorado Residents you might want to go to the DOW website and take a look at the fee increase and what license you need before applying for a big game license in 2019.

This is what I expected and saw when they went before the Legislature and requested the increases this last spring.

If you want to look at the increases but don't want to dig through the web site here is the link to it.

In my case my old man fishing license went from free to $8 but since I am now over 65 I don't have to buy a habitat stamp for $10 so in that case I saved $2 but it cost me more for my hunting licenses and application fees.

Not a surprise. Been seeing all the proposed increases for awhile now, just finally approved. A couple of things jumped out at me that I had not noticed before. Only real change for NR's was lowering the fee for a Bear tag from $350 to $100. Also noticed the new fee for all registered boats. In addition to regular registration is a new fee of $25 for Colorado registered boats and $50 for out of state registered boats to use state waters. Pays for the mandatory mussel inspection at launch ramps.

I always hate to see them go up since I usually pay for the whole family but would rather the gradual increases than a big hit every decade or so.
This will likely stop the free for all feeding frenzy on the big 3 that started last year though. I was actually considering cashing out on a cow moose but will see how next year plays out.

There are way too many bears.

This last year on the muzzle loader season I saw more bears than I did buck deer.

The real change for nonresidents is the $100 a pop for moose, sheep, and goat points. That will change my plans.

Lol, and just like that, Fink is out of the moose sheep and goat game! Good thing it only cost me $9 to get my points last year. Non resident fishing license up to $95, so looks like that will no longer be the cheaper option for deer/elk point fees

I figured that was the case. I just become a resident this past weekend so I haven't had the chance to get back into the mountains and hunt/scout. Can't wait for next year! Might have to pick up a bear tag as well now!

And now I've read that everyone will have to buy a hunting license in order to apply or buy points. Almost another 100 bucks for nonresidents. They're trying hard to get me to keep my money.

I've looked at the changes pretty close and have now seen anything about buying a hunting license before buying points. A hunting license is not even required to hunt big game, only small game and waterfowl.

This is the press release that was linked on the other forum. Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks, but federal money is tied to license sales, so states are motivated to sell more licenses.

I hope that they quoted the law wrong in that in the paragraph where it says:

"A qualifying hunting license, valid between April 1, 2019 - March 31, 2020, must be purchased in order to apply for any 2019 big game license. A qualifying license includes: 1) an annual resident or nonresident small game hunting license; 2) an annual resident or nonresident spring turkey license; or 3) resident small game/fishing combination license (only available to residents). "

From what I remember last year you couldn't purchase a 2018-2019 hunting/fishing license until April of 2016.

It could be a little hard buying one if they are not available and if you need it to apply by April 3 or so you could be in trouble.
