Colorado P & W seeks to raise all fees

Sadly the cost of everything is going up and the CP&W need to get their money from somewhere.

My biggest gripe is that you can't transfer your yearly state park pass from one vehicle to another, not to mention the price of it for seniors. Also while it isn't going to break anyone why are they going to raise the senior fishing license? The article says that it is now free but it is actually $1. The only one that is free is if you are under 16.

A few years ago they offered a lifetime Aspen Leaf Pass for seniors. I'm sure glad I bought one, never have to pay for entry to a state park, discount on camping too. It is true that you can't transfer the pass between vehicles. Kinda pissed about the free senior fishing license going away. I do fish a lot.

Where was it that you saw that the senior fishing license was free?

I looked at the license fees and it says that 64 and older the cost is $1.

I didn't qualify for it last year but I'm going to get that $1 license this year just as soon as they go on sale.

The $1.00 is for Search & Rescue (.75) & Wildlife Ed Fund Surcharge (.25). Have to pay that on all licenses and tags. Check last years elk or deer tag and you'll see it. I guess your right ...it isn't actually FREE!

Ya, I just looked at the web site and bought my 2018 fishing and small game but did it separately so that I would get the $1 license.

But they could do a lot more for seniors on the state park passes. I talked to them once and they said that the seniors would abuse it by camping and launching boats. I asked them how they would get away with it since both are different than just a pass to get into the park. I also asked about being able to transfer a pass from one of my vehicles to another vehicle and they said that all people would do would be to move the pass from vehicle to vehicle to get more people into the park. I then asked what they do if a vehicle doesn't have a pass in the window and how more than one vehicle could get into the park with the pass if they are checking the parking lots. They didn't have a answer to that one.

So am I now. If you read the Denver Post story, it was updated yesterday. Looks like someone made a mistake in the numbers and they have been edited out. I never really pay any attention to nonresident fees and did not catch that the fee for an elk tag in the article was the same as this year.

The State Senate unanimously approved a request by Parks & Wildlife to increase all fees in 2019. This includes all hunting and fishing licenses and tags. The proposed elk tag for a non resident would go from $450 to $660 and the fee for residents would go from $45 to $53. Still has a ways to go before it could become law.

I hope the residents can afford the $8.00 increase for the average 500lb elk at $53......
As a nonresident, It's almost to the point that I can't afford to hunt anywhere anymore. :-(

I feel your pain. The non-resident fees are getting out of hand for the average man.

Gotta pay to play. I love it how people complain about fees and then buy a complete Sitka/kuiu system because they didn?t like last years camo pattern. Or maybe that?s just me taking shits at the new age ?buy everything available? hunter.
Fees aren?t cheap but there?s a lot worse places you could be sending your money...

It is the same in all the western states.....NR get to pay the bill. I hunted California all my life until I retired 18 years ago. Went back a couple of times to hunt deer with my friends and family. By the time I bought the mandatory NR hunting license and a NR deer tag, it was actually more than a NR deer tag in Colorado. I paid over $500.00 if I remember correctly.

Joe, for some folks I agree. But not for all, including me. Excluding rifle, I only own one high-dollar piece of equipment, a deal I got on a kifaru pack. Every year I am successful in solid pants and earth-tone and general camo patterns. But I can't be successful in having a good time nor punching a tag if I can't afford to go...
I do put a few dollars aside each pay, but it's still tight with a stay-at-home wife raising my 3 children on a single income.
