Colorado Leftover Watch

Hey folks, just wanted to introduce my self as one of the new advertisers. I'm a Colorado native that's hunted from the Kansas border to the Utah border and lots of places in between. My real passion is sheep, but with those tags so rare I settle for mule deer over elk every day. We developed our app idea based off the way reissued tags hit the leftover list last year. I got tired of hearing about all these great tags and no way of getting one for myself. Let's face it, not many of us have time to monitor the leftover list as much as would be needed to see every tag that gets reissued.

So the app's gonna monitor your specified hunt codes, alert you when they become available and direct you to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife purchasing site.

Anyways, you'll probably see me on a few other forums if your a stalker and I hope to see a bunch of hunts get posted from tags that folks get off the app!

Welcome to the forum and to Eastmans.

I think this app will help out the Co hunters in a huge way.

Welcome and interesting app idea. I guess the app will whittle down the number of folks being alerted and going to the website...

Users will get the chance to enter their specified units to watch for. I didn't want to just alert everyone to every single new hunt code that got dropped on the list. I felt like too many would have found out at the same time and it was something I wanted to avoid. So if you're not specifically watching for it, than the app wont alert you. This way if you have a favorite under the radar unit that has a tag go on the list, you actually stand a pretty good chance of getting it as the Colorado Parks and Wildlife system is first come first serve.

Sorry but these type of things is what ruins it for everybody. Soon enough they will change there system and not allow anyone to do it. Making money for potential chase of game, isn't right in my eyes. I don't see how this would be any faster than watching it. It's going to be gone before the notification even comes through. Good luck but when the DOW hears this I'm sure they won't be happy. Takes some serious balls to be taking information directly from a gov't website.

CODAK, we've actually been working with Colorado Parks and Wildlife since December regarding this project. They've given us permission to do what we're doing and if everything goes well we hope to partner directly with them next year. I promise I would never mess around on any government site without contacting them directly first.

As far as being faster, I guess you have a point. There will still be a few guys and gals that religiously download the list that might get the tags faster than the app can notify you. However with the server we've built I feel confident that our users will be notified faster than the internet hawks can get to them the vast majority of the time. And for those of us that don't have the time to monitor the list every couple minutes throughout the day, this will give us the best opportunity to get those tags as they become available and still get some work done.

There's already several outfits that watch,
Apply for or purchase tags for people at high cost.
I don't want any special tags, Just my home unit if one comes available since I didn't draw this year. I'm currently working 7 days a week so this could be a benefit for me.

It just seems like it's not going to be any faster, therefore, a waste of money. Chances are so slim even if you see the tag when you are hawking the site, let alone on an app where you still have to enter your information to login to the CPW site to buy the tag. To each their own. I guess it's better than a guide sitting there with their clients DL getting tags for whoever for a premium price? Still BS either way, can't ever keep anything simple these days. All about the $$ in the hunting industry now

CODAK, everyone has to enter their information into the CPW site for purchasing. Luckily with the new system at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the app will take you directly to the log in portion where you should have your log in credentials saved on your phone. I will warn that the CPW VERY specifically told me not to take users any further than that, so for this year that's as far as the app will take you.

Hunter25, you sound exactly like my friends, family and I. We'd just like to know about certain units that we've hunted for years without;

1) Paying an arm and a leg for the information.
2) Having to take time off work to monitor the list all day.

Hope you get the tag you're looking for. There were 978 hunt codes that got reissued last year, with many having multiple tags, so there's a strong possibility that your unit becomes available.

Unless this app is FREE, I'm not a big fan of the idea. It's another pay to play scheme. This just makes it harder than it was before to get a tag off the leftover list unless I want to pay someone to monitor it for me. The tag madness never ends...

It seems like this will just create (unfair?) competition for someone who simply wants to watch the list and try to pick up a leftover tag. Now they'll be at a disadvantage to people who pay for this extra edge. Better to leave the playing field level and give everyone at chance.

Winchester, we couldn't agree with you more. Last year was insanely frustrating knowing that these tags were available and having zero time to monitor the list. We all know the stories of people getting tags off the list, but the reality of life is that work prevents the vast majority of us from even having a shot at these tags. The app is intended to level the playing field for those of us that can't justify sitting at our desks all day refreshing the list over and over again.

As for the app being free, there's nothing I can do to make that happen. Building the server takes money. Building the iPhone app takes money. Building the Android app takes money. The time I have invested could have made money at my other job. Marketing on internet forums, magazines and everywhere else takes money.

The intent really is just to give everyone a level playing field on which to play for these tags. While the plan is to get the app to the point where it is free, this first year can't be done that way. At the very least I can proudly say that a little more than 5% of gross download revenue will be donated to the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society. Having spent some time on the Board of Directors I can confidently say that the money donated will go towards keeping some of the animals I personally have a hard on for, on the mountain.

Everyone has a level playing field to compete for tags now.
Watch the list and try to get a tag when it becomes available.
This app will give an advantage to some (the ones you profit from) ... but not to all.

Are you sure you're not undercover Bernie? Sounds like socialism at it's finest. "Level the playing field", make it "fair" for everyone. Do I get a participation trophy if I try and get a leftover on this app and it doesn't work? Money back guarantee if it doesn't work? I'll pay later when my gov't check comes in? Sheeesh things like this get on my nerves

I’m not in favor of this but I’m not in favor of paying a guide for services or cabelas tags for their services or a lot of other services. It’s just what modern hunting has became.
