As I continue to further look at GE and maps I find myself with some questions for the group. Pro confirmation to what I "think" I know but I've got to check and recheck. :)

For these above timberline hunts what elevation do you find the deer at? Scattered all the way from timberline to the peak or is there a sweet spot?

If you were to access the South end of unit 36 would you park along the interstate or would you need to park at one of the parking spots and then hike from there?

Any specific features to look for on GE that might highlight deer locations?

They are going to be where you find them. There are quite a few trees that will grow in bunches surrounded by meadows along with small draws they the bucks will like to either feed in or bed down in. We used to find them bedded down right in the middle of a meadow as high as they could almost get as long as they were still in the grass. You'll just have to figure it out once you get there.

On the parking, it is illegal to park along side the freeway in the right of way. However a lot of hunters and hikers do it, but all it would take is one patrol man that is having a bad day to have your vehicle towed. There also are not that many places to actually park to access the area. You have the Vail Pass rest area and then in East Vail you can park at the trail head at the end of Bighorn Road.

That's what I thought, but had seen vehicles along the interstate in the past so thought I would see if Colorado was different. Last thing I need is to come back after a week in the high country to then have to find my truck.

For leaving a vehicle you might want to look at the parking area that is in East Vail. You can follow Bighorn Rd east to where it goes under the freeway and then a short distance later is the parking area and trail head. Another area is the Booth Falls trail head off of the Frontage road about a mile west of the East Vail exit.
