Hi everyone,

I drew a Colorado rifle elk tag 1st season October 15-19 in GMU 21, I've hunted this area before but it was back in 2013 and it was with a bow I came up short but had a blast and saw some good elk. I am looking at back packing in near Oil Spring mountain. I guess what i am looking for is a little advice from some other hunters that may have hunted around the same area. Any information is greatly appreciated. Also is there someone in the DNR that might be able to help me that would be great as well.

Thanks everyone

if you get on the hunt atlas on cpw's website and click on any portion of the map, then select contact info, it will bring up contacts for the local wildlife office, area wildlife manager, and district wildlife manager. All are great resources. 21 was the first unit I ever hunted. 3rd season and everyone else had deer tags so we were hunting slightly different areas than where most elk would be found. 1st season, I'd be looking up high near Douglas pass. You could get lucky and catch one off the resident herd down by the river though.
