So I am doing a scouting trip next month to the unit I will be hunting. I plan on getting a fishing license so that I can hopefully have fresh meat while camping. The NR otc elk tag comes with a nr fishing license also. When I called today to purchase fishing license over the phone the lady could not tell me if I would have to pay the full price for elk tag which includes the same license. She sent me to someone else and had to leave vm. Anyone run into this before???

That was a change I seen this year I'm a resident so I wasn't sure, but I believe you pay full price for ur elk tag and get the fishing license "free" but I believe the elk tags went up a little for non residents, prolly to cover that cost

If you get meat from the store then dont criticize me for having the courage to go out and kill my own meat

I hope that's not the case since they won't let me buy the otc tag till August 5 and I'm scouting around July 21st. A five day tag is $21 and with habitat stamp and 2nd pole for son runs about $40 total I think.

Ur right I have no idea, the book said all non res elk tags come with a year long fishing license, but if you are buying OTC how can you get it, sometimes I don't understand how this state makes their decisions,

LOL Sorry to laugh but I found this funny. I was in the same boat last week when I was scouting/vaca. I didn't purchase a fishing license for I didn't get a chance to fish but wondered about the OTC tag too.

If I recall if you hold a fishing license and something happens in the back country that is kind of like your insurance card for search and rescue. If I was going to be miles in the woods last week I would have bought a fishing license.
