Colorado Elk units 57 and 66??

I am a nonresident, we currently have three points. Rifle tags should be very obtainable for us, we are also considering trying for muzzleloader season. The draw is a little tougher for us for muzzleloader but it looks like odds would still be in our favor. For a group of first time Elk hunters do you think there is an advantage either way, muzzleloader or first season rifle? I really like the idea of hunting during the rut which muzzleloading im sure will give us a shot at, but not sure that the rut would be a huge benefit to us being that we really don't know how to call..

The odds show that the rifle hunt is more successful. However, I wouldn't let the lack of calling experience keep me from hunting with the muzzleloader.

Myself, I don't bugle call hardly at all. Lots of calling that is marginal leads to the bulls getting "call shy" IMHO. Geese get that way especially after they have been called a lot and get shot at. I really just cow call mostly. It pretty easy to learn and can be very effective.

I thank you all for the input. The three of us applied for M/L bull tags in unit 57/58. Another friend decided to apply for a cow tag as well. I ordered my BLM and nat. forest maps last week. Excited to get the draw results! Any other helpful info is always welcomed! Thanks again!

I've found listening instead of making noise to be more productive, especially late evenings. Have found quite a few big herds of elk by listening to the young bull talk.
