Sure was. I'm a happy hunter.Back door method was right on.
Wow!! 25 points and no draw, really takes my breath away.25 points was not enough!! My wife did not draw a unit 201 elk tag.
That is what preference point creep in Colorado has done to nonresidents (and to a lesser extent residents). If we knew when we started that it would take this many points, we wouldn't have started. I cashed in with about 10 preference points for Unit 10 in 2000. I shot a decent bull and decided not to re-enter the preference point game.Wow!! 25 points and no draw, really takes my breath away.
Another reason to revamp the PP system.25 points was not enough!! My wife did not draw a unit 201 elk tag.
Fact! I can't believe 25 points won't draw. Maybe its time to look into another unit?Another reason to revamp the PP system.
So what would you propose? The primo units will always take lots and lots of points, no matter what the system. Not trying to start an argument but just curious. Maybe we'll have to start a new thread....Another reason to revamp the PP system.
The official results are up. You don't need to do the backdoor method anymore.Showing 49x for Muley and 4xx for elk. Looks like I got skunked agin

I would like to see a bonus point system like we have for sheep for all species. Guys with more points have a better chance but anyone has a chance once you have 3 points. The hybrid system they have implemented for a few units isn't great either. So what would you propose? The primo units will always take lots and lots of points, no matter what the system. We are reluctant to try a different unit. After 25 years, time has taken a toll on my wife's knees. We need a unit with terrain she can handle. We like 201 because it is relatively open country allowing for glassing and stalking. She is past the age when she can go down into a heavily forested canyon and beat the brush (not to mention packing one out of there). We have hunted mule deer in 201 and are familiar with it. So I guess we will stick with it. Next year should be the lucky year...but I have been saying that for the last several years.Fact! I can't believe 25 points won't draw. I understand that logic for sure. I feel the same way. I'm not trying to push you into a certain direction, but with the wife's knees not being 100% 201 can get steep. Right next door in unit 2 the terrain is way more mild and altogether an easier hiking unit. Unit 2 is a much bigger unit than 201 and also according to CPW aerial surveys has a greater population of elk. Along with that I believe its easier to draw a Bull Tag maybe by just a couple points(if that with the creep). We are reluctant to try a different unit.
