It honestly boggles my mind why poachers do this. You get nothing out of it and risk huge penalties if caught.

I have a theory about poaching incidents like this one. Because no attempt was make to take any part of the animal, just a lot of publicity, some one (or some group) that has antihunting feelings di it. Why, well lots of negative publicity related to hunters, guns and hunting in general. The general public relates this to a hunter doing the deed. Bad publicity from everywhere with the inference that a hunter did it.

Just sayin............

A number of years ago we had a so called hunter shoot a ram near I-70. He stashed the head into a culvert, I believe that he planned on letting nature take it's course and come back once it was just the skull. He got tripped up when someone walking the bike path smelled something rotten and called the county sheriff who contacted the DWR who found it. They set up cameras along with sitting on it for a while until the poacher showed up to take what was left home.

So you just never know what they had in their mind when they pulled the trigger.
