i am looking into doing a archery backpack high country hunt this year. i am looking at 53 or 54. eastmans MRS doesn't mention 53 or 54 for archery so i am just looking for a little feed back. i know this area got hit hard in the winter of 07/08. is it reasonable to go in and hunt hard and be able to get into some decent deer(160+)? i am open to other units also just would love to be able to get above timber and chase some bucks for a week. i only have one point also so that will narrow it down a bit. would like a unit i can draw every few years so i can learn it.
thanks guys

I would look maybe into 49 theres a lot of big country above the tree line with the possablity of 160 plus in there. I dont know much about the gunnison area. PM me if you have any questions.
