It is suppose to be a good one, but then when they forecast a good snowfall it usually just blows over.

From what I have seen of the storm so far is that you can forget about the snow.

It has been mostly rain where I am just off of I-70 and looking to the top of the hills to the south I see very little if any snow. Even the trees don't have any of the white stuff on them.

Snow cover map? Sounds handy, is there a link?
http://www.intellicast.com/Travel/Weather/Snow/Cover.aspx
Link is the USA observed snow cover map

On the same page look above at the other maps that are available. The 24 hour and 48 hours ones are pretty good......however.....with these first few snows of the season.......a few degrees either way throws it all out to lunch......as seen by the rain falling now on the Grand Mesa

Looks like though on the current radar that Steamboat, Walden, Hot Sulphur Springs ( Routt NF) is getting a good amount with just south of it in the Arapaho NF is getting lesser amounts. I'm sure that will change some also.

Thanks CC, Slugz and JimP. That's very helpful information. Weather-wise, it could be better...but still beats last year. I'm hunting closer to CC, in southwest CO and the snow in the higher elevations there are not too bad. Starting to get really excited, I feel my work productivity wavering as most of my time is spent looking at maps and weather reports.

This is the best tool I've found so far for looking at mountain forecasts, especially snow. You can choose the area, the mountain, even the elevation and it will show you 10 days of forecast, including precip. Most other forecasts, you have to choose a town near the mountain but the elevation and precip may be completely different.

Mountain Forecast

If you don't see the mountain you want in the dropdown lists, just navigate to it on the map and zoom in until you can see the mountain and click on the blue diamond.

What day are you leaving from California? I might take a run up to your area next week. So far the 0nly day day I can't do it is wed. Thinking I might go Thur or Fri. There is one area in the unit I'm hunting that I didn't get to that I could do.

Those are some good weather sites. Thanks for posting!

The cold and rain helped out yesterday. Was able to fill my tag on a good buck that was rutted up. Now we are heading south to unit 70 to look for a deer for my brother. Looks like a little rain today and tomorrow down there.

Congratulations Ridn9high, glad to hear of the successful hunt and that the rut is kicking in. I'm headed to unit 70 next week for 4th season. Sounds like we're in the same boat, good luck! If you can (or are inclined), any updates on unit 70 would be awesome (13 years of saving points has me a little nervous!). Shoot straight and be safe!

I'll send you a PM after the hunt. If I haven't sent one before you leave, send me one because I might forget.
