Coffee at Camp Cooking Tips and Uses

Hello everyone.

How do you all handle coffee when you’re hunting, camping, or cooking outdoors? I’m curious about practical camp brewing methods like French press, percolator, cowboy coffee, or instant options that actually taste decent.

What beans or grounds travel well and don’t get ruined in camp? I’m also interested in using coffee in cooking.

Do you use it in dry rubs, marinades, chili, or desserts with wild game?

Looking for simple, reliable coffee setups and any creative ways you’ve used coffee while cooking at camp or at home.

Percolator all the way, years ago my old aluminum one got all bent up so I picked up a large stainless steel one from Cabela's and it has worked great. In my early years it was cowboy coffee all the way.

I just use the same coffee in camp as I use at home, Kirkland brand. It makes it easier that way. I leave to go camping and I just grab the 3 lb can off of the counter and throw a spare one into my travel box.

Coffee can be used in a lot of recipes, just substitute brewed coffee for other liquids. You may have to play around with it a bit to get the flavor you want.

spike camps when time in the morning is important, instant coffee.
all other times in the outdoors, perculator coffee.

I always take the time to percolate my coffee every morning and make enough to take a small thermos of it with me.

Same here. Percolator is the only way to go.
I’ve also gone the instant coffee route for many years also and it can be pretty good also if your in a hurry to get going in the am.

We have a system worked out to get the coffee ready fairly quickly.

We have everything ready before we go to bed, then the first one up fires up the burner and places the pot on it. By the time we get dressed and do any duties that need to be done the coffee is usually ready to go. The only time that this failed us was years ago when we were tent camping. The winds came up along with the snow. We fired up the stove outside of the tent and couldn't even get the water to boil. We tried to cook some sausage on the grill but it was so cold along with the wind that the only spot heating up was directly above the burners. This was on a large Camp Chief type of a grill.

Then one other time, the old reliable baby Ben alarm clock didn't go off. I got up and placed the coffee onto the burner. Once dressed I headed outside of the camper to get my pack and rifle onto my ATV. In that time the coffee was done and my brother in law was starting to make breakfast, I just told him to give me a cup of the coffee. I downed it and was off. I managed to get to my destination just as it was light enough to see.

So if you figure out a system it really doesn't take too long.
