Going 2nd rifle season public land Elk for 1st time in CO. Staying east of Meeker and wondering what unit 22 or 24 has better odds at getting a bull. We'll be able to get back in off the main trail head on foot and just looking for a suggestion.

Thanks
Riz

Depends on the weather. Not being snarky. If you can't go scout it before the season, just try to be flexible, get as far back in there as you can, and head up or downhill if the snows come early or late.

Riz head on over to the new members section and give us an intro please. Would love to know more about you. Shoot me a PM and I may be able to help. Welcome

You can see all the odds in the regional guide for that area. That should be part of your study material going out west.

5 Year average is:
14% success in 2nd rifle season unit 22.
11% success rate for 2nd rifle in 24.

As far as elevation, don't listen to that garbage. Watch other factors. Elk will move up and down those mountains with ease mostly because of hunting pressure and weather(like snow).

Try using the Interactive Hunt Map if you haven't already.

The bulls always stay between 8640 ft and 8680 ft unless it's Tuesday. Then they hang out on the left side of the trailhead.
