About the same as in any other unit.

The LaSalles have elk and with there being elk there are going to be spikes. It will mostly depend on the effort that you put forth.

JimP,
Not sure. Going with others who have hunted there. As much a camping trip/getting away from work trip as a hunting trip. I am looking forward to the trip. Spike tag was all I was able to come up with.

Just keep a eye on the herds of cows and calves on the outside perimeter of them if there is a big bull hanging with them. If you have a rifle tag the spikes may be back in with the cows and calves.

Think odds state wide are like 10 to 12% depending year.

It's doable but you will have to work for it, have some elk herds patterned or just get plan lucky. My first elk tag every was spike rifle and I killed one first day. we did hike 3 miles/2000 ft up but mostly it was just plan luck. Only elk we saw.

I've cow hunted there twice in mid October. I've seen lots of cows with lots and lots of branch antlered bulls but for some reason never a spike. This is post rut so I guess they are heading to sanctuary areas early? Good luck!

Granted not in Utah but my last 2 cow hunts in Nevada starting on October 1 each year I jumped spikes about 75 to 100 yards from the cows with the bigger bulls. They were bedded by themselves or with another spike. Not with every group i saw or jumped but 2 or 3 times each year. Later seasons in Oregon like in November they were in bigger groups with the cows. Just a tip from what ive seen
