All I can say is that I am glad that there were no portable video recorders or the internet when I was in my teens and twenties.

It has been long enough ago that the statute of limitations has ran out but one late afternoon we were driving on a dirt road in the hills and spotted a 2pt buck standing on the side of the road. As we got near it it started running along side the road and the driver sped up. As we got along side the buck my buddy jumped out of the back of the truck and grabbed the bucks antlers and bull dogged it to the ground. When we stopped and went up to him I asked him how he intended to let the buck go without getting the do do kicked out of him. We found some nylon rope in the truck and tied the bucks legs together and my buddy let go of the antlers and got off to the side a ways. It took that buck about two kicks to get out of that nylon rope and he was gone.

This was just one of my adventures with deer.

I had a great-great uncle who owned a resort in NE Minnesota (around 1915) who jumped on the back of a large bull moose as it was swimming across a lake. They had a photo of it that became a very popular tourist postcard. My mother told me that it almost became a writ of passage around Lutsen MN until they started to charge people for doing so. The moose couldn't do much as long as the rider got off before it got to shore.

All I have to add from my knowledge of wild animals. Most will run from you, but there is a distance to close where they will fight. Let just say I know that distance on whitetail deer. No more sneaking up on them. If you can touch them you are to close.

Hope the buck was okay after this.

That being said the rider is also pretty fortunate that he didn't suffer some injuries from this ride also.
