Got my first dog for the year with a coyote challenge....also called in a few with a distressed cottontail. Had a great time we called in 15 coyotes in one nights time and managed to only take 3. Yea u guessed it, lots of missing going on.....lol. On one stand we had 5 coyotes running in one after the other!! We could have shot more if there was two shooters, but how we worked it was one held the light while the other shot.

My buddy and I went out again for a few hours and managed to call two bobcats and a coyote. The second bobcat spotted us at about 250 yards and got away. We had a blast! We used the Jack Rabbit and baby Jack in distress calls. I used a Remington Model 660 in 222 Rem (triple deuce) to take the coyote. My buddy used his TC in 223 Rem to take the cat.

Yea its lots of fun too. I use red and green led flash lights with 300-400 lumins. You can spot their eyes over 300 yards away! Real cool watching a set of red eyes coming at you at a fast walk or run. We can usually identify the animal within 150 yards with a red led and about 200 yards with a green led.

While we call we are scanning the area around us non stop with the hand held flash lights until eyes are spotted. Then we keep the light on the animal until he walks within range for a shot. The flash lights run on rechargeable batteries that last for about 5 hours on a full charge. We have spare batteries if we plan to hunt all night. The red led light does not scare the predators.

Coyote #1.jpg

Went out this morning and had two coyotes run into our stand with a Distressed Jack Rabbit call. I shot mine at about 100 yards and dropped him. My buddy missed his about 180 yards. Once I saw he missed I took a shot at the second coyote and missed as well a tough running shot at about 200 yards. Had a great time! I used my old Winchester Model 70 Westerner in .223 Cal with a Hornady Superforance 55gr GMX bullet. Man that bullet did a number on that dog! Soft ball size entry hole and a complete pass through almost whole length of body (Showed his better side, lol). Gonna go back to the Vmax bullet, lot less drama.

Very nice packer58, what type of guns, ammo, and calls did you use. Just curious what is working for other folks.
700 Rem 22-250, hand loads / 55 gr Nosler BT, FoxPro, Lightning Jack. It was a pretty good morning, it had been getting REALLY cold (-20 or so) for a few days and the dogs were really coming to the call. I made 5 stands that morning and called 5 dogs. Couldn't get on the last two as they were flashing through the sage brush. I wanted to stay and call all day but my truck was back at camp plugged into my generator, Power Stroke + extreme cold = generator/block heater  Anyway, killed a nice buck on the second to last day of the late archery and then caped it off with a few dogs.

grey fox.jpg

I called in this nice grey fox yesterday and shot it with my .22 Magnum rifle.... It did a great job with very little pelt damage. I used Remington factory ammo spitting a 30 grain Accu-tip.

Tyler's grey fox.jpg

One more grey fox hits the dirt, my buddies son shot his first grey fox today. He used his dads TC 223 cal rifle with a 50gr Nosler Ballistic tip traveling 3500 fps! he hit this guy square behind the shoulder missing all bones. We had a hard time finding the bullet's entrance and exit!! When we did it was tiny holes.
