Another update on these boots. I coated them 4 times in snow seal. Boots are great so far.

I wear them every day while surveying and I have been putting on some serious miles this summer.

Damn...it was hot in west Virginia today on those mountainside hills. Good news is that I will be ready for colorado in a few months!

I figured I would do a follow up and let everyone know that these boots started leaking a week ago. I returned them to Cabelas because they have a lifetime warranty and Cabelas told me that and I quote " A lifetime warranty is only really supposed to be covered for a year"

So I pitched a fit and they got me another pair of these. They just arrived yesterday.

FYI- These boots were treated with snow-seal wax and both boots leaked.

I had a pair of the uninsulated perfekt hikers for about 3 years. I loved the fit for a long time, then noticed they kinda shrank up over time with exposure to wet snow and water. Probably my fault for not treating them but once. Mine also developed the squeak everyone talk about. And i noticed that when i was squatting down when your foot is bent and only your toes touching the ground the steel D-ring lace loops dug into the top of my foot and made them hurt to bend over in. im thinking it was from the leather shrinking over time. I dont use them anymore, i wonder if i clean them up real good and wax them a few times if they will loosen up again or should i just get a new pair of boots?

I was using the kenetreks but the were giving horrible blisters on my heels. I switched to the meindl perfekt's and have not looked back. I know boots are specific but they work great for me.

As another follow up.

My latest pair of boots have begun leaking.

I guess its onto a new brand. I'm done with these. Too expensive to only get 2 years out of them.

Might try the kenetreks mt extremes or those new Colorados.

Sorry to hear this. I've had good luck with my Danner Pronghorns thus far and going into year number 3 now.

I have never found a boot that held up more then a year or two at very most . but I wear them every day and am not particularly gentle with them . the pronghorns have held up as well as any I tried . including kenetrek.

kenetrek is a fine boot . I simply can not justify $500 for a boot that last no longer then the danners.

I was in a Cabela's a year or so ago when I bought my "Hunters". I was really looking for a pair of "Hikers", but when looking through the Meindl inventory found that many were labeled as "imported", and not "Made in Germany". I figured that the imported label really meant "China", and I have learned repeatedly that generally also means junk. The "Meindl Hunters" on display at least were still German made, so I bought those.

I filled up my old boots with water yesterday.

The leak is pretty severe and is happening at the bottom of the tongue of the boot. It was actually a pretty substantial leak. Only on the right boot I might add.

I pulled the trigger. Kenetrek Mountain Extremes should be here Wednesday. We will see what these are all about I guess.
