The cost of preference points are reasonable compared to some of the states where you have to purchase a non res license and app fees just to apply.

It's funny how every state's revenue models are different. Wyoming seems to navigate that with application by volume.

Disclaimer: Please realize I haven't had the MRS of a few years so things may have changed.

I always felt Eastman's did a very good job on the MRS for their home state of Wyoming and I found it a very useful resource for Wyoming.

I haven't gotten the MRS for a few years so things may have changed in recent years, but a few years back, the MRS had some glaring errors for states outside of Wyoming. In some cases, the top hunts in a given state were totally missed being reported on. In other cases, there were hunts rated "blue" that were in no stretch of the imagination the top areas in the state. I wrote a letter to top level person at Eastman's in the tone of trying to help out in pointing out some specific examples. I received a reply, but the response was very unsatisfactory. That was when I gave up subscribing to the MRS. My sense at that time was that people were being assigned to write the MRS section for a given state and they just didn't have the experience in that state to do the job correctly.

I can tell you that a couple years ago, I was called by a consultant from a magazine (not Eastman's) for advice. They were writing the research section for a certain state and it was due in a couple weeks. I really like this person and he's an awesome hunter, but the fact is he had never hunted the state, and if memory serves me correctly, he had never applied in the state. Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't make a lot of sense, offering professional advice on a subject you have little to no experience with.

I kind of thought with being based in Wyoming this is where the most current and consistent accurate info would come from. That's probably why I look at it more than other states.

Another set of thoughts...

This might be the most knowledgeable forum when it comes to draws. Every year I see the most well thought out responses of any place helping others apply.
