So, this is by far the busiest section in this MRS subsection. Like, it's not even close.

Why do all of you think that is? I have my theories but I want to hear your thoughts.

Antelope is a good reason.
Also WY is relatively young in the preference point game so people have em and wanna use em eventually.
e.g. Will this be the year I burn my 9 elk points...time will tell

In that thread from a few days ago where everyone listed the states where they apply, I counted the number of people who applied to each state mentioned. Wyoming was the clear leader with 89 percent of people applying there. The next closest states were 50-something percent. That's all the explanation you need, I think.

My other observation would be that Eastman's is based in Wyoming, and the "home state" of the various forums tends to get the most use.

While I can't argue with Antelope I would also suggest that the number of nonresident limited entry tags available compared to other states creates more interest for information that the MRS can provide.

I agree with the "home state" idea. Surely the Eastmans know Wyoming better than any other state.

Definitely the ability to hunt most anything, except the trophy species, fairly often and have good hunting. Antelope certainly sticks out in this regard as it is stepping point for most of us easterners that want to get our feet wet in the western hunting game.

I didn't read all of the responses but If I had to guess I would say everyone is watching Wyoming to see how bad they are getting screwed over this year with the rise in point and tag fees....and I'm being 100% serious.

Location: No matter where you live Wyoming is easy to get to.
Simple draw: For the most part an easy system to navigate.
Cheap PP: You don't have to buy a license to apply.
Variety of terrain: Mild to wild.
Great management: Lots of stuff to shoot at.
Low population density: Getting away from other people is part of it.
Lots of public land: Onx has really shown people how much there is to hunt.

I could come up with more, but I think those are all reasonable.

Whatever state ups prices tends to get a lot of scrutiny.

Eastmans is Wyoming-based which definitely contributes to it. On the forum side, MM is Utah-based and focuses there, HT is Montana-based and seems to focus there.

Also, Wyoming is a tough state to cover concisely in the MRS because of their management-style. A state like Utah is easy to cover (Henry's, Pauns, San Juan for deer... Beaver, Kaiparowitz, San Juan for elk... done).

Wyoming doesn't really have clear winners for most species which requires a much more in-depth review to understand where to apply. Many units have the capability to produce trophy animals every year, but those same units also have the capability of being a very tough hunt every year. Also, with the recent weather patterns the state is in a bit of a transition which requires more research. Just my thoughts.

Not sure either. Non resident tag allocation percentage is certainly a big one, I also agree that their draw system is relatively simple and you can buy a point without applying for a license. etc....
