Brought home 4 Spotters from Cabela's tonight...

Different spotter. The 65mm objective is nowhere to be found.

Yep, the 65mm's were $342. When I looked on-line last week there were some listed on Cabela's site. By the afternoon they were gone. I got lucky and called my local Cabela's and they had an angled 65mm in stock. Had them hold it and picked up Friday night.

The 86mm's are all that's left right now.

I couldn't resist. I went to cabelas last night to check out the Krotos.

Ended up looking through the Krotos and the Swaro.

Wearing glasses the Krotos isn't going to work for me. Not enough eye relief. Thought I would share that with those of you who wear glasses so you are not disappointed. It was a really nice and solid scope. When I took off my glasses it was great. But my next purchase will be something I dont have to take my glasses off for.

The Swaro had the eye relief I personally need to be able to look through while wearing glasses. Worth the extra 2K? Probably not. If I had the money to burn and knew I would be using this on 50 trips out west... Yes.

Yeah, but for the cost difference you could get laser eye surgery

Laser eye surgery doesn't work for everyone. I asked my eye doctor quite a few years ago and he just said that I would be wasting my money. I had cataracts in both eyes then but have since had them both removed and am back to not having to wear glasses except to read.

mallardsx2, glad you have opportunity to try them out. I did notice less eye relief on the Krotos spotters vs. Meopta and Swaro.

If you are near the La Vista store, NE, they have a Cabela's Instinct Euro HD / Meopta 82mm spotter in the Bargain Cave for $1,099 (1/2 price). It was there on Sunday when I returned the three other scopes.

Laser eye surgery doesn't work for everyone. I asked my eye doctor quite a few years ago and he just said that I would be wasting my money. I had cataracts in both eyes then but have since had them both removed and am back to not having to wear glasses except to read.

And...

My former spouse got laser eye surgery in 2003...she's back to wearing glasses. My cousin's husband is an Ophthalmologist, and he doesn't recommend the laser surgery. Granted, he's pretty old school, but his words to me were, "Don't let no body laser your eyes...just wear glasses..."

I think you will find the low light situatuon to be what separates the good from the great. Try looking at fine detail at last light as if you are trying to look for points.

Definitely true.

Another thing I notice is hunters are pretty loyal to a few popular brands but when you look at astronomy, birding, and photography sites you see other brands of spotting scopes and binoculars such as Fuji, Pentax, Docter, Minox, Steiner, Leitz, Canon, Takahashi, etc that are by all indications among the best optics in the world and certainly comparable in many cases to popular brands like Leupold or Vortex but you aren't paying a premium for a name.
