I am having trouble deciding which broadheads for my 2012 Muley hunt. It is between the Ulmer Edge and the G5 Montec. I have always been skeptical about mechanicals but this looks like a great head. What are your thoughts?

Depends on your KE. Give me your specs and can find it out. You need probably 60 ft lbs of KE to be efficient but shot placement is key. I have 80ft lbs of KE on my evo and 95 on my omen so I can use mechanicals. I say try both on your bow through your hunting setup and see what your results are.

460 grain arrow moving at about 280 fps. It puts me right about 80. I am not worried about the ke. I am just having a hard time deciding.
I am not sure, I couldn't get rages to fly right with my arrows that are the correct spine. If you have montecs I would keep them for elk and larger game and use ulmers for deer and pronghorn and smaller game. That is what I am doing but completely up to you.

I killed a pig in February with NAP Thunderheads. They fly like field points and are inexpensive. I have some Solid Broadhead Company ones coming, but haven't received them yet to test them at the range. If I get the archery cow elk tag, I plan on using these with the Thunderheads as back up.

Look at Phoenix 100 from http://www.redfeatherarchery.com/ they are a small company the guy that grinds them is a teacher and huge elk hunter in Oregon. I have used them on whitetail and they are amazing!! I guess I have a soft spot for those small companies that are hunting crazy and made in the USA!!

I really like the way the Montecs fly out of my bow, and I like the durability of them as well.. The only problem I have with them is that I absolutely cannot seem to get them sharp. I've tried the sharpener G5 sells, a few others, I've even put it on a grinder.. They just don't seem to want to get sharp. The grinder really messes up the point too...
Ulmer Edge - I've been shooting them at 80yds at 4-5 inch balloons and they fly like darts, and they'll pop the balloon every time. I also experimented with them in a 10-15mph crosswind and it had no real affect accuracy wise. Price wise they're about the same as any other broadhead on the market now days.

nvarcher, i have the same bow and rest as you, but i shoot axis infused 340's. wanted to shoot montecs last year but couldn't get them to tune close enough to my field points. I decided on schwackers and have been very happy. It's a very similar design to the ulmers but in my opinion they're a little less complicated, which to me translates to more dependable. They've performed well on whitetails and muleys. Let us know what you decide and how they work. good luck.
Well I picked up a couple packs of the Ulmer's today. I'm going out in the morning to try them out!
These things would fly in the center of my field point groups. I only tested them out to 50 yards so far. As of now I love them!!!
