Add another state that when you win the lottery, lucky you, you get to pay $1200 for a desert sheep tag.

gee thanks, that's some raffle/lottery,

pay $20 to "win" a tag, I think they mean win a chance to buy a tag.

to each their own and of course residents will probably see the benefit of this more than non-res,

seems like a giant crock to me.

these raffles should be winning the tag, not winning the chance to buy the tag and go hunt.

honestly just seems like another tool for the state to make more money and not offer the customer anything more.

maybe the winner could sell auction their tag? now that's an idea! buy the desert sheep tag for 1200 sell it for whatever... maybe that's the clause in their somewhere... ha.

so far wyoming and nevada are the only 2 states I know of that run a non-raffle, Raffle.

Arizona I must say does it right! their auction, reasonable fees and you win the tag/hunt, no paying for the tag fee.

If these states were people, everyone would be saying how cheap these people are. what a joke! no thanks.

or how about this...

a raffle/chance to win a pair of binos or car.... then you win they say, ok those binos you won.... you get to buy them now for $500. oh lucky me!

figure it out Nevada and Wyoming! if you need to charge more for the raffle ticket so that the prize is already paid/included, do it!

although it sounds like just another chance/opportunity for residents... and NOT NON-RESIDENTS!

what a shame when, 10% of non-residents generate 100% of resident revenue.

wrong on many levels! good bye!

Fun fact about Wyoming and these tags.

The Tri-fecta and Species specific raffle tag winners must buy their tags at either the R or NR associated fee. Meaning if a NR wins the trifecta, they're looking at 4-7K in license fees alone, depending on species they choose of course. But, most are hunting moose, sheep, goat, and bison in some combination.

Also fair to note, that if you purchase a Commission tag, the buyer pays the associated fee for that too...either deer, elk, or pronghorn.

Here's where it gets interesting...the Governors tag purchasers, DO NOT pay the associated R or NR fee. The fee is paid by an appropriation from the Legislature.

The average guy, that wins a raffle has to pay his own freight, the guy with a fat wallet, he gets his tags compliments of the Wyoming taxpayer.

That's just awesome...

Need some cheese with that whine? Dont like it dont play please dont play as a boycott will make my odds better. Nevada offers more chances then anywhere else to hunt desert sheep and your upset that a tag that could go to a resident and allows someone to hunt almost all the open units and extra time for the hunt should not have a tag fee. Maybe we should sell it at auction then your $1200 turns into $80000 or more.

It's not a raffle, it's a special draw tag. Nevada does have dream tags that are raffle tags, and I believe you don't have to pay the tag fee. Maybe go for those instead.

If I won the sheep lottery tag, I wouldn't even have to drive to Nevada to hunt. I'd skip like a little girl the entire way. Explain to me again why you'd be pissed that you won one of the absolute best tags in the lower 48?

I once knew a guy that won a corvette in a drawing and then complained he had to pay the sales tax on it.

some folks just can't be happy with their good fortune.

Im ok with buying a sheep or Elk tag for $1200 and not loose points i call that winning
hmmm, not losing points is a bonus, if that's the case..? but none the less I don't feel as if it's a true lottery/raffle if winning means you get to buy an expensive tag like everyone else who drew that tag.

As said by someone else, it isn't a lottery/raffle. It is a separate draw for a special tag. Just like the regular tag, you have to pay for the tag.

It isn't a lottery/raffle.
