Was wondering what boots guys were wearing to antelope and deer hunt in north east Wyoming. Will be there in early October. How much of a concern are rattlesnakes and snake boots in October ? Thank you in advance for the advice guys.

A lot of times I just use midcut trail hikers in a lot of the gentle rolling sagebrush hills, until there is an issue with snow. I've used a few pairs of Merrell Chameleon3 Ventilator Mid Gore-Tex. Not the most robust boot but super comfy.

The point being unless the terrain or weather dictates, go with what is most comfortable.

I wear Lowa Tibets. They are a great all around boot. Uninsalaeted but still warm enough for cool mornings and afternoons. Also I alway wax my boots before any hunt just in case of rain or snow.

I live in the NE part of Wyo. There are plenty of rattlesnakes. But I couldn't tell you the last time I heard about someone getting bit by one. Are you hunting around the Newcastle, Gillette, Sundance, Moorcroft areas. I would not worry too much about the snakes. Last year at the beginning of October we did get around 3 feet of snow. The Newcastle area got around 6". So it can be snowy and winds around 30mph are not uncommon.

Depending on the weather, I have Crispi Idaho's for warmer weather and Crispi Wild's for colder temperature. Both extremely comfortable and with the right sock combo they can't be beat.

I will be hunting on a ranch in Gillette, antelope area 24 and also want to check some local public land if any. I was told they had a ton of snow last opener melted fairly fast. I was thinking the snakes would be denned up unless still warm. I am very afraid of all snakes so perhaps chaps should be on my to buy list lol.

I actually wear those when I use the treadmill with my pack!! I was just afraid a snake might bite through them. I am afraid of all snakes, kind of a coward lol. But if snakes denned up will def use those. I have countless miles on them and makes sense to wear hunting.

You shouldn't have any snake problems in October, and even if you do come across one they are good at letting you know they are there. I'm definitely not a fan of snakes either, and here in NV during archery deer in August/September we encounter quite a few.....I just say some choice words while my heart beats out of my chest then choose an alternate route! Normally by October they have all denned up.

I'm fine with the snakes but put a freakin spider around me and I'll get the willies and go the opposite direction.

i usually pick up a left over tag for 24 and do some hunting around the gillette campbell county area i like my kenetreks but for bow season last yr antelope hunting i picked up a pair of underarmour speed freaks they worked really good for the warm days and are super light. Never seen a snake south of gillette but have run into a half dozen or so north of gillette by the powder river.
