So now that we've gotten caribou off the list my son and I are considering a deer hunt on kodiak for 2021. Anybody have experience or recommendations for a boat or lodge based hunt? Prices are all over the place from as low as 2k each to as much as 5k. All offering basically the same services. Obviously I like cheaper but I'm sure there's a balance somewhere. Just hoping to find a happy medium I guess. Don't want to bring all my own gear and camp this time. Planning december and with colder temps and even more added gear just decided not to go that route.

You'll have plenty of options. A boat-based hunt would be fun and you can move around to find the deer. I have several guide friends that would be good also, they are shore based.
December weather can be tough, and you may want to plan for a day or two on either end of your trip for weather delays. Very likely you'll have some.

We can get in touch sometime and get something figured out. I'll be hunting there this November for deer and ducks.

Sounds good Bob, november is possible also but can't go week of Thanksgiving due to work. Definitely want unguided but shore based is fine also. Just want to be sure we'll be able to find deer.

Hunter25, did you happen to make this trip happen? i am starting to learn about a sitka blacktail trip and want to start looking at transporters and or other options for a DIY type trip? i am not set on any specific spot yet but want to start looking more specifically and i dont believe any sports shows will be happening this year to actually meet and talk with some guys.

i do realize this is a old post, just hoping for some return info????
