Ok guys.... I am sure those who follow this forum have read my other thread in this sheep, moose and goat forum. I appreciate all the best wishes and good luck comments and hope I am blessed and will have some super pictures to post later on. That said I am wondering about where to take my ram ( assuming I will fill my tag) after my hunt in December in NW Nebraska. The taxidermists around here are great on deer and have done a bunch. That said I wonder if I should have someone who works with sheep a lot.... from the sheep producing mountain states... do my mount. I talked to a taxidermist in Omaha and he has done a few and feels confident he does a good job. But many friends and others said maybe I should only trust a taxidermist who works with sheep quite often to do a "correct mount". What do you all think..... those who have had experience like I described above, please comment. Any recommendations? Thanks !!!

I've done both. I trust my taxi to be able to produce what he says he can. Before I met my current taxi I took a white tail in Texas but had the local taxi do the mount vs my western taxi for the same reason. I would prefer to have my normal taxi do everything. Have him show you photos of other rams he has done and even go look at them. Most guys won't have a problem to allow you to look at their trophys. Then make the decision on who you want to do the mount.

Good luck on your hunt.

Where in Nebraska do you live? There are 2 taxidermist in Laramie WY that do phenomenal work. Highly recommended from a friend who's a official B&C measures. One of them has done a ton of personal work for Jim Cabela.

Barry Smith in Hot Sulphur Springs, CO. He does many of the mounts for the Bighorn Sheep Society and is a very reputable taxi when it comes to sheep. This is his specialty! My buddy got his done there and turned out amazing!

I had great luck with brad haddix of lasting memory taxidermy with my elk last year. He had quite a few sheep as I recall and was a nice guy as well. He is in the Denver area.

It is really getting where the forms available really are so good that a competent taxidermist should be able to do a good job on most animals in my opinion. There are a few mounts like cat faces and dog faces that take a real artist touch, but most shoulder mount forms are so good that it shouldn't be an issue. I prefer to have my local taxidermist work on it so I can actually go by and look at it while he is working on it and provide input on positioning ears, etc. I'm having my local taxidermist do the full body mount on my mountain goat. Hopefully it will turn out good! :)
