Best Muley state to buy preference points

Planning to start buying preference points to hunt Mule Deer. I live and hunt in the Northeast. I enjoy hunting in the west. I know Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado all hold some quality bucks. Which state would be my best bet to buy points? Can't buy points for Wyoming this year because I was selected for a general tag already.

If I were you, I'd pick a state that you can hunt every two or three years. You would probably find more success this way. Saving points for a bunch of years (which isn't getting any cheaper), then having one chance to seal the deal & meet all your expectations can be hard to do and heartbreaking if it doesn't work out the way you'd hoped. I'm guilty of saving too many points myself now have the stress of trying to make sure the hunts are worth the time & money invested. Something to think about...

Yep, burning points myself and getting down to more frequent hunts at fewer decent to good places. For the amount of hunting and points cost, WY and CO come to mind. There is some surprisingly good muley hunting in SD, NE, MT, if you do some research. It does not always take points to have a fun hunt with a chance at a 160-180 buck, but you have to look pretty hard. Some of it may come down to the type of terrain you like to hunt, then find a few locales, with out without points needed, to hunt.

What's wrong with all of them? :)
I thought of buying points for many different states and use them different years but I need to be honest with myself. Will I really be able to hunt all of the states? I doubt it

That's what I'm looking for. A really nice Muley that was worth the wait and effort. I'm willing to do any type of hunting to get a big boy. For $10 I just bought A point for SD. Found that I can't even get points this time of year for UT, MT, and CO. Looks like I'm stuck until next year

I keep buying points for elk, antelope & deer in Wyoming and rotate the hunts. I'll even throw in a hunt in CO. or MT just to switch it up

I hope to hunt that state next. You on public land? Did you need points to draw a tag?

As of late, it has been a sure deal for MT. But if demand goes up, you might consider points. Some of that depends on what tag you try for, the big game combo (deer and elk) or the deer combo.

I like Nevada. Close for me but I like how they do their drawing and there are some giants out in some of those zones. gonna take a couple years to draw but sounds like you aint in a hurry anyways.

It would actually all depend on just what you are looking for. Just about all the western states have areas that hold good mule deer but you will actually have to hunt for them except for a couple of units and those units take a long time to draw with preference points and almost longer in states that have bonus point draws unless you get lucky.

I'll start going after CO and WY. Thanks everyone for the input!
