I have been reviewing most of the western states publication, stats, and reccomendations. I have also been reviewing there past ones. So far I have concluded Nevada seems to manage best for trophy potential and Colorado for numbers. Hunting opportunities seem to be better in Colorado and Wyoming. Several states seem to be real close and could easily be argued as better. I guess it depends on what criteria/factors you use, or how partial your your heart might be to one state. Which state do you think does the best for opportunities and trophy potential in the last ten years?

That's a tough question that I'm not qualified to answer, but I know WY, MT and ID are struggling with wolf issues and it doesn't matter how good their management program is if they are having most of their fawn crop taken out. I think Utah has done a decent job with the elk management and trophy potential for elk but the deer population is suffering in many areas. Both AZ and NM have been good choices for quality elk hunts over the years too.

In my experience, the State of Nevada does the best job at managing for trophy potential. Unfortunately, I moved from there four years ago to a state just to the North that claims to manage for opportunity. I don't think they could manage their way out of a wet paper bag!

For elk i would say it depends on what you want managed. Utah manages great for huge bulls, if you like to hunt elk once in a lifetime. I would say Colorado probably manages best for opportunity. Wyoming probably sits somewhere in the middle, every other year draw and a chance at some trophy bulls.
