This last year my boy asked to start coming along hunting (YES!) I was was all kinds of excited. I decided instead of making them come along or telling my kids they had to come I would wait for them to ask to go with so I knew they wanted to. So we got a spring turkey tag

And smacked a nice double bearded tom and picked up some descent shed too.
Some summer fishing held us over till fall

A big batch of rainbows.
Then doe antelope season came

And we belly crawled in specifically on this doe because she had 2"horns and I thought my boy would think that was kind of cool. We made a nice sneak in and drop her.
Next came fall turkey

After the spring hunt we knew exactly where to find the gobblers and got another one tagged up.
All in all I've never had so much fun hunting with someone in my life and can't wait to get back out there with my boy. Might take him along for a long weekend deer or elk hunting this year.

That's awesome! Congrats on the new partner. He sure looks like he is having a blast. I was kindof in the same boat this year. Mine turned twelve this year. I had taken small game type stuff before, but I wasn't sure he would like the big game stuff. He loved it and I also have a new partner it looks like. He ended up with a whitetail doe, so he was pretty stoked. He was picky for a couple weekends (or wasn't sure he wanted to shoot I am not sure which, doesn't really matter), but then he got tired of getting up at four o'clock and hiking his butt of in the cold and got his doe. He has grown a dang foot this last year it seems like, so he has long enough legs to keep up. I wasn't sure how he would do elk hunting, but I was going too slow for him. I was kindof impressed.

Well good luck next spring. There is some pretty decent ice fishing in Cheyenne. I have had good luck at North Crow. Also by Laramie is some really good ice fishing that Hilltop knows about. The Curt Gowdy lakes have some smaller ones in there, but they are heavily stocked and you can catch them all day it seems like. Might be something to hold you through the winter, lol. Probably doesn't compare to those Midwest lakes, but its pretty fun.

I might have to ask for some turkey advise that looks like a blast.

That's really awesome! He looks like he is having a blast. That's a hunting buddy for life. My 4 yr old made his first trip with me and my daughter deer hunting a couple days ago.

againstthewind the view in the lakes out here more than make up for the fishing. Congratulations to you and your son getting out and filling the freezer together.

I actually make my own suits they cost a ton less and are a lot better than anything I've ever found in the store.
This is the shirt I used for my boys suit

And this is after I sewed in the burlap

With that kind of cover the kid didn't have to be perfectly still.

Thats awesome! I really like the homemade suit!!! X2 what Topgun says - They grow up to quick. I am working on my Granddaughter now. No hunting yet as she is only 5 but I got her hooked on fishing!

Awesome!! I can't wait until my boy is old enough, I'll never force him in to it but I obviously hope he follows in daddy's footsteps!

That's awesome! Makes me really look forward to taking my son out some day. He's only 10 months old right now, and I have another one on the way. Won't know if it's a boy or girl until they come into the world. Go_deep, where did you get the burlap material to make the guillie suit? Might be something I can do in the future.

that ghillie was a great idea to deal with the trouble kids have sitting still....will have to use that in the future.
