I run a similar set up as mcseal2, a Swaro 65 mm sts spotter along with the Promaster tripod and the Promaster panhead.
My pack is the Kuiu Icon Pro 5200. When I am scouting, my spotter goes in the left external side pocket and the tripod either goes in the right external pocket, or I stick one end in the bottom right pocket and strap it to the outside of my pack on the right side.
This works fine for me.
While I am hunting, my spotter goes in the same external pocket on the left side, but my tripod gets strapped to the left side, with the end of it in the left bottom pocket. This way, I get better balance because I carry my rifle on my right side, either over my shoulder or with a Kifaru Gun Bearer, and my rifle is NOT light weight.
One of the things I like about the Kuiu Icon Pro 5200 is that it has lots of pockets, which helps me keep things organized. I've been running this pack for the past 3 hunting seasons and have been completely happy with it.
Hope this helps out.
