Bells Palsy

Anyone have this?

My lead tech got this a week or so ago me is having a tough time with it. The left side of his face is paralyzed and now he is having bad headaches. Doc gave steroids and some inflammatory meds but from what I've heard it need to just go away on its own with time.
I ran into a guy today that has had it before and he suggested acupuncture so I made him an appointment to see if it helps.

If you have had it what helped to relieve the symptoms?

Mom had a bout with it last year. Didn’t try acupuncture, but the steroids and things did help. I don’t know of much else they can do for it other than ride it out. Pretty rough situation and scary too. Mom had other issues in the past so thankful that was all it resolved itself in a couple days. I guess it can be different so hopefully this situation gets better quickly.

I dealt with it back in college. Didn't know it until I was brushing my teeth and spit toothpaste all over the mirror. It got worse so I went to the doc who told me that something damaged the nerves leading into the muscles that controlled that side of face. Said that 95% of the time it comes back on its own. I was more concerned about the remaining 5%...he said it never comes back. He gave me some steroids but they didn't do squat. It was pretty frustrating, lasted about two months for me. Had to tape my eye shut at night to sleep and I drooled a ton.

My Dad got Bells Palsy a couple months ago. The doctor told him that they’re seeing it more now and his case was related to Lyme disease. The doctor had him tested and in the meantime treated him for Lyme disease. His test came back positive and his Bells Palsy went away in less than two weeks after he was treated. He didn’t have the typical Lyme disease rash or symptoms.

My wife had it for about a year before the one side of her face got feeling back in it and she could smile and move her mouth mostly like normal. I don't see anything now, but she still has a touch of muscle memory loss. It was tough on her emotionally.

My brother had a bout with this years ago. The whole right side of his face drooped. He was back to normal in a week or two. It does have to go away on its own, some recover fine others do not, or takes a long time to go away. I hope your friend recovers fully.

Didn’t hear about the Lyme disease. I’ll have him look into that.
