Most important thing I think is placing you blind downwind of the bait site, and having a clearing at your back. This keeps the bears from getting behind you and waiting till you leave to come in.
If your close enough to do it, bait small amounts of bait. Create competition. A large pile of bait allows them to come in anytime they want. You want them to come in when You want.
I also like to leave sweaty clothes in my stand after packing in bait in hopes it will acclimate them to my scent.
Bears will eat anything. Popcorn, cereal, dog food, donuts, bread, you name it. Once their stomachs turn meat is great. Until then they love donuts. The bait is the least of your concerns. Creating that competition where they want to come in the the biggee. IMO.
Throw up a trailcam in a steel box and dont hunt until they are coming in pretty good.
What unit and which season?
Congrats, I love hunting bears!
