Good luck, I hope you find a nice one. We've had a sow black bear with 4 cubs running around Anchorage lately. The biologists were planning to kill them but our Governor gave them a "pardon" and asked that they be captured and relocated....you want them?

no such luck, did see a sow with 1 cub; that was pretty cool watching. beautiful up there right now did see a ton of moose and deer. ha, I did more glassing for deer than I did for bear. not as much growth going on as I expected, ill give it another go in a few more weeks in a diff spot.

just got back from 3 days of bear hunting in the rain and snow. was a pretty awesome experience. i was hiking up to do some spot n stalk when i heard some hounds going crazy down the canyon from me, so i high tailed it trying to get a glass on things and before i knew it the dogs were close and a big boar came flying up the trail paying no attention to me what so ever. was an adrenaline rush of a life time! i had about a 5 second window where i could've shot him, but knowing the dogs were close behind i didn't wanna mess up and piss of the handlers hunt. so i waited to catch the people to pass by but they never did. i was hoping they were just out working the dogs and were gonna let me shoot the treed bear.:) what's the protocol in that situation? i mean, i could've shot it but felt like it wasn't my bear to shoot. i think i would've been torqued if some dude shot a bear my dogs were trying to tree for me.
seen so many elk, so so so many elk, it was almost silly how many elk i came across. going to be an awesome year i think, we've had above average rain fall and ive never seen that area so thick with lush green grass.

You made the right decision in my mind..As a previous hound owner and someone who likes to chase hounds whenever i have the chance, any owner wouldnt be to happy if someone shot the animal they were chasing. Especially if the bear was to be wounded for a while and the dogs caught it on the ground and got tore up...then you would have some angry dog owners. Im sure if the dog owners were just out training they would have more than happily let you shoot it after it treed, never known a hound owner who doesnt like their dogs getting a reward for a job well done. . Bear chases can be a real pain, sometimes they are short and sweet, but a lot of times especially on big Boars they go on for a long time, and handlers will use their GPS collars on the dogs to follow the chase from the truck to see if they can get closer on another road and possibly kick in another set of fresh dogs to help bring a big boar to a stop and up a tree. . Those big guys hate to tree and usually just will rest by sitting on the ground and swatting at the dogs. .But i couldnt agree more that the green and rain is amazing and much needed for Idaho. Im in boise now for summer and its looking great. Ill be heading out bear hunting this weekend as well and looking forward to getting up high and looking over some country.
